Motor Control Flashcards
Know the terms associated with motor control
Motor control
Neural, physical and behavioral components of movement.
Motor program
An abstract representation that, when initiated, results in the production of a coordinated movement sequence.
Schema
A set of rules, concepts, or relationships formed on the basis of experiences.
Two kinds of schema
Recall schema
Recognition schema
Recall schema
The relationship among past parameters. past initial conditions, and the movement outcomes produced by these combinations.
Recognition schema
The relationship among past initial conditions, past movement outcomes, and the sensory consequences produced by these combinations.
Low task organization
Task components are relatively independent
High task organization
Tas components are highly interrelated.
Regulatory features
Aspects of environemnt that shape the movement itself.
Nonregulatory features.
Aspects of environment that may affect performance, but movement does not have to conform to these features (ex. humidity).
Discrete tasks
Have a recognizable beginning and end.
Continuous tasks
No obvious beginning or end. End point is determined arbitrarily by individual.
Closed tasks
Performed in relatively fixed or predictable environments.
Open tasks
Require a person to adapt movement strategies to changing and unpredictable environments.
Identify 5 constraints on muscle control:
Muscle strength
Muscle tone
Attention/perception
Coordination
Cognition
