In 1950 and 60s, Herzberg interviewed accountants and engineers to find out what motivated and satisfied them at work.
What are hygiene factors?
Things like good company policy, pay, relations and conditions
What are motivating factors?
Things like personal achievement, empowerment and interesting work.
What did Herzberg’s theory recognise?
That motivation comes from the individuals’ needs
