define motivation
drive to succeed or the desire to achieve something
two main types of Motivation?
Intrinsic and Extrinsic
Define Intrinsic Motivation
The drive that comes form within the performer.
Define Extrinsic Motivation
The drive experienced by a performer when striving to achieve a reward (tangible or intangible) from an outside source.
Give some examples of tangible rewards
Certificates, trophies, medals
Give some examples of intangible rewards
Praise or feedback from others, applause from the crowd.
Why is intrinsic motivation generally seen as more powerful than extrinsic motivation
Because intrinsically motivated behavior is not contingent upon any external reward or punishment, and involves self-directed motivation, it is both stronger and longer lasting, especially in the face of challenges.
