Motivation
Purpose or driving force behind our actions
Two types of motivation
- Extrinsic
- based on external circumstances - Intrinsic
- based on internal drive or perception
Motivation theories
Intrinsic
- innate, fixed patterns of behavior in response to stimuli
Arousal
- state of being awake and reactive to stimuli
- Yerkes-Dodson law
Drive reduction theory
- individuals act in order to relieve internal sense of tension
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs
- prioritizes need in 5 priorities:
1. Physiological needs
2. Safety, security
3. Love and belonging
4. Self-esteem
5. Self-actualization
Seven universal emotion
Happiness, sadness, contempt, surprise, fear, disgust, anger
