Motivation. Flashcards
What is motivation used for:
To identify with a particular model is that they have a quality which the individual would like to possess
Identification
Occurs with another person (or the model) and involves taking on (or adapting) observed behaviours, values, beliefs, and attitudes of the people who, they are identifying with.
Effective modelling factors
Attentional processes
Retention processes
Production processes
motivational processes
Attentional processes
Child learns from a modelling person.
Essential for child to adequately listen to and accurately perceive the modelled behaviour.
Attentional variables concerning the characteristics of modelling stimuli:
1. Availability.
2. Distinctiveness.
3. Personal attractiveness.
4. Functional value.
Other variables may be?
Sensory capabilities, arousal levels, past reinforcements.
Retention processes
Modelling must be remembered involves storing the information and coding it into readily used verbal symbols.
Meaningful information more likely to be recalled.
Aids: imaginary rehearsal of the modelling behaviour or actually carrying out the behaviour.
Production processes
Symbolic representation of modelled behaviour need to be translated into effective actions.
Corrective modelling is an effective way of providing feedback when observers exhibit performance deficits
Motivational processes
The observer is more likely to adopt behaviour if:
- Brings external rewards.
- Internally positively valued.
- Observed to bring rewards to the model.
