Direction - do you seek or attract the situation
Intensity - how much effort u put in
Intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation
Intrinsic - complete activities for internal pleasure and cause there fun and enjoyable
Extrinsic - complete activities cause of an external force driving behaviour e.g. reward or praise
Self - determination theory
States that motivation is determined by how much an individual satisfies 3 basic psychological needs
- Autonomy
- Competence
- Relatedness
Splits motivation into 6 types
- Intrinsic
- Integrated motivation
- Identified regulation
- Introjected regulation
- External regulation
- Amotivation
what can intrinsic motivation be split into
Knowledge - understanding, learning somet new
Accomplishment - creating something or mastering somet hard
Stimulation - experiencing pleasurable sensations
Integrated motivation
doing something because its personally important
Identified regulation
Doing something because its highly valued
introjected regulation

The basic psychological needs
Need for :
Autonomy - to have choise and control behaviour
Competence - to feel confident abt behaviour
Relatedness - feel connected to behaviour and activity
What happens if you satisfy the 3 basic phycological needs
more satisfaction = more intrinsically motivated
The way the activity satisfies the 3 basic psychological needs determines how self-motivated you are
they interact to determine motivation
Cognitive evaluation theory
States that any event that has an effect on someone’s perception about competence and feeling of self-determination will affect intrinsic motivation
its the effects of external events (rewards, influences and others around us) have on intrinsic motivation
What are the 2 functional components of rewards, feedback and reinforcement that decide how intrinsically motivated an individual is?
a controlling aspect
an information aspect
