Motion Year 10 Flashcards
To measure speed two things must be measured which are?
Distance and time. The units are usually M/S or KM/HR
How to calculate distance
Distance = speed x time
How to calculate time
Time = distance / speed
What equipment did u need for the average speed of cars expirement
Ramp
Meter ruler
Stopwatch
Clamp-stand /books
Toy car
What are the controlled variables in the average speed of cars experiment
Height , surface , release point and starting from 0 m/s
What things would affect the cars in the experiment
aerodynamics , car-mass , wheel type , wheel friction
How many meters in a kilometre
1000m
How many minutes in an hour
60 mins
How many seconds in a minute
60 seconds
Why are light gates better at tracking than stopwatches or sensors?
It gives a more accurate value ( it can time better) and it tells us the end speed
How do light gates measure speed?
It measures speed by measuring the time interval the infra-red light beam is broken for, and the distance between the beams
Why is the car faster the higher it starts ?
It starts with more potential energy which turns into kinetic energy at the bottom of the ramp - faster
How does a distance/time graph look if there is no movement
It would be a straight line from the starting point eg starting at ten. (Middle of graph)
How would the graph look if it was no movement on a speed/time graph
Bottom of graph straight like across
What does the graph look if it is a distance time graph with constant movement
Straight diagonal line
