Motion & Machines Flashcards
The ability to work
Energy
Stored energy
Potential energy
Energy due to motion
Kinetic motion
An object tends to stay at the same velocity unless another force causes it to change
1st law of motion( inertia)
Force is equal to an object’s mass and acceleration of the object
2nd law of motion (F=ma)
When an object exerts a force on another object, the second object reacts by exerting an equal force back on the first object
3rd law of motion(action/reaction)
A force acting on something as it moves a certain distance
Work
Formula for work
Force times distance = work
Any object that makes work easier
Machine
Do not reduce the amount of work done; they make work easier by strengthening the force or changing the direction of the force
Simple machine
Fixed, moveable, block & tackle
Types of pulleys
Levers, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, and screw
Simple machines
