Mostly Everthing Flashcards
Cancer is
An uncontrolled division of cells caused by damage of genes or chromosomes causing more then normal being produced leading to a tumour
DNA Is
The DNA molecule made up of 2 strands that coil together to from a double helix
What is chromosomes
Cells contain a nucleus this is the control centre because it contains chromosomes theses are divided into smaller sections called genes and genes are made up of DNA
We’re are chromosomes found
Nucleus of cells
Phenotype is
Persons appearance on the outside
Genotype is
Tt,TT,tt
What is heterozygous
Different
What is homozygous
The same
What is alleles
From of a gene
What are genes
Sections of chromosomes that are code for particular characteristics
Dominant
The bigger letter over riding the smaller (T)
Ressive
The smaller letter (t)
What is genetic screening used for
To reduce the incidence of disease or condition caused my chromosomes or genes
What does an amniocentesis test consist of
Cells taken from amniotic fluid surrounding baby chromosomes in the cells are examined to see if the fetus has a condition
The ethical issues of genetic screening
It should we allowed be a free choice should it have to cost what if we can predict life expectancy
The nervous system
Responding to the environment anything we respond to is called stimulus every stimulus affects a receptor when a receptor is stimulated it causes an effector to produce a response
The nervous system equation
Stimulus - receptor - effector - response
What is insulin
Insulin is a hormone in to the body to control and keep the glucose level if the glucose gets to high it can cause illness or death
Type 1 diabetes
Starts in child hood - usually have to take insulin the rest of there lives - is caused by the pancreas not being able to produce insulin
Type 2 diabetes
Comes later in life - pancreas stops producing insulin- controlled by diet and then needs to be controlled my insulin injections- linked to lifestyle factors
Auxins role
The plant hormone affects the growth of the cells in the tip of a plant
Sperm tube
Carries the sperm from the testes to the urethra
Testes
Produce sperm
Prostate gland
Adds fluid to feed sperm
