Most Important Flashcards
What are the three main disciplines of estil training ?
Craft
Artistry
Performance magic
Describe power/source/filter
Breath-power- lungs and torso
Tone -source- larynx TVF
Resonance- filter - vocal tract structure
Describe power ?
Breath (power) draws the TVFs into vibration
Describe Source
TVFs (source) vibrations create pitch and tone
Describe filter ?
Vocal tract (filter) processes frequency of sound into patterns recognised A’s vowels
What is the primary function of the larynx ?
Respiration/breathing
Name the main laryngeal cartilages/structures?
Thyroid cartilage Cricoid cartilage TVf FVF Glottis Aryepoglottic sphincter Epiglottis
What does the velum do ?
Velum acts as a doorway to open/close the back of the oral cavity and nose.
What is the doorway to the back of the nose called ?
Velopharyngeal port
another name for the velum?
Soft palate
Name the 5 parts of the tongue
Body Tip Blade Dorsum Roof
Describe effort
Effort indicates where the muscles are working and how hard they are working on a scale of 1-10.
Also the input of energy
What is the glottis
The space between the TVFs
Define attractor state ?
Where your singing/speaking voice sits naturally
What is MCVE ?
Most comfortable vocal effort
When are TVF’s short ?
At a low pitch
When are TVF’s long ?
At high pitches
Describe recoil breathing ?
Recoil describes the sensation of breath rushing in without having to actively breathe.
What is the Bernoulli effect ?
When vibrations are caused by the TVF’s coming together near the mid line of the larynx with the edges close enough for the breath to suck them together and then blow apart.
What is sub glottic pressure ?
A build up of air pressure below the glottis/TVFs caused by the closure of the TVFs.
What happens to the sub glottic pressure when the TVFs open?
It drops
