Mosaic Model Flashcards
Structure
Phosphilipd bilayers - 2 layers of phospholipid molecules
Cell membrane Composition
Composed of a phosphate head and 2 lipid tails
Within the bilayer
Carbs- glycolipid, glycoprotein
Cholesterol
Proteins- integral (permanent), peripherl (temporary)
Seperate
Separates contents of the cell from the external environment
Intracellular fluid- cytoplasm
Extracellular fluid- waterery environment outside cell
Eukaryotes
Organelles (endoplasmic reticulum, golgi body) -membranes are used to create compartments within the cell
Regulate
Cell membranes able to control which substances go through it - regulates contents of the cell
Semi-permeable
Which allows certain molecules to pass through via passive or active transport
Communicate
Involved in cell recognition and communication
Glycoproteins, glucolipds, and integral proteins are responsible for this
