What is Mortons neuroma
benign neuroma affecting the intermetatarsal plantar nerve
most common space affected with morton’s neuroma
3rd intermetatarsophalangeal space
gender split morton’s neuroma

symptoms of morton’s neuroma
forefoot pain, worse on walking
most likely a shooting/burning pain - may feel as if there is a pebble in the shoe
may be a loss of sensation between the toes
what clinical sign may indicate a mortons neuroma
one hand tries to hold the neuroma between the fnger and thumb, the other hand squeezes the metatarsals together. A click may be heard as the neuroma moves between metatarsal heads
Diagnosis of mortons neuroma
mostly clinical but ultrasound may be helpful
management of morton’s neuroma
avoid high heels
metatarsal pad
> 3 months of Tx failure = metatarsal dome orthotic
corticosteroid injection/neurectomy if consistent orthotic failure
