Employment by platoon
Platoon operates from 1 or 2 firing positions and fires all mortars on each target.
-Capable of conducting multiple firing missions simultaneously.
Employment by section
Section employment places each section as a separate firing unit.
Employment by squad
Places one or more mortar squads on the battlefield as separate fighting units

2 major disadvantages of map Recon
- Terrain and other features may have changed.
- surface conditions of the route and position cannot be determined

- Deliberate
- Hasty

- Direct Order
- ordered to displace when certain predetermined events occur.
3 types of displacement
By platoon
By sections
By squad or section
Platoon displacement
Used when there is little immediate likelihood or when artillery can provide adequate support during displacement. All platoon mortars displace in one move
Section displacement
Requires one section to remain in position while other section moves
Occurs when continuous fire support from mortars is required
Squad displacement
Similar to section displacement but less mortars
