What is mortality?
Mortality refers to the number of deaths in a population at a given time.
What are mortality rates?
The measurement of the propotion of death in a 1 year period (Per 100 000 of live births of a population)
What is Maternal Mortality?
The number of mothers who die as a result of pregnancy/childbirth up to 6 weeks after delivery (Per 100 000 Live births.)
What is infant mortality?
The rate of death of an infant before their first birthday (Per 1000 live births
What is Under 5 Mortality?
The deaht of children under the age of 5 (Per 1000 live births)
What is the difference between Mortality and Morbidity?
Mortality refers to death, whilst Morbidity relates to ill health
What is the difference of Maternal Mortality rates and Infant Mortality rates?
Maternal Mortality rates refers to the number/rate of mothers who died due to pregnancy/childbirth, whereas Infant Mortality rates refer tothe number/rate of infants who died befoe their first birthday.
Why is mortality rates important?
Mortality rates show the rates of death, and can help to estimate life expenctancy within a population.
