What is health status?
Health status refers to an individual/population’s overall health.
- Includes life expenctancy, experience of illness, disability and disease.
What is Self assessed Health status?
A subjective measurement of an individuals own opinion about their health, state of life & in general.
What is Life expectancy?
Life expectancy is the measurement of the number of years a person is expected to live on the baisis that a current health conditions do not change.
- This is calculated at birth.
What does HALE stand for and mean?
HALE stands for Health-Adjusted Life Expectancy, and refers to the number of years in full health that a person can expect to live based on the current rates at ill health & mortality rates.
- This is a measurement of burden of disease.
How do you calculate HALE & the time spent in ill health?
Life expectancy - The time spent in ill health = HALE
Life expectancy - the age when the disease started = Time spent in ill health
What is Incidence?
The number of new cases of a particular disease or condition that arise in a population at a certian period of time.
What is prevalence?
The total number of cases of a particular illness or condition that are present in a population in a given time.
