Q

Why is the depiction of the Trojan war in book one significant (esp in terms of a comment about human suffering)

A
  • The first mention of Aeneas/ any kind of reaction since the description began. Brings it back to reality - people are still suffering - makes it more real: we see the suffering first hand rather than just tales or depictions of battles
  • Literally set in stone = more real
  • On public display - heightens the suffering
  • Monument to Homer? / putting the Iliad to bed?
