- Renal impairment/failure
- Late second stage of labour

A
Elderly/frail patient Hypotension Respiratory depression Current asthma Respiratory tract burns Known addiction to opioids Acute alcoholism Patients on monoamine oxidase inhibitors

Primary emergency indications
A
- Pain relief
- Sedation to maintain intubation
- Sedation facilitate intubation (where fentanyl is not appropriiate for RSI - modified or paediatric IFS)

IV Dosage
A
Upto 5mg at 5 minute intervals
Drawn up
9ml saline and 1ml morphine
10mg in 10ml
5mg in 5ml of solution
ALS to consult at 20mg
NO MAX DOSE

IM Dosage
A
10mg
Repeat 5mg after 15 minutes if required (ONCE ONLY)
OR
0.1mg/kg for elderly/frail
NO REPEAT DOSE

Onset: 2-5 minutes
Peak: 10 minutes
Duration: 1-2 hours
