Morfology of leaf Flashcards
Leaf functions
Photosynthesis (elaboration of organic food in the presence of light).
Breathing and perspiration.
Conduction and distribution of sap.
Leaf characteristics
Has limited growth.
Generally, green in color due to the presence of chlorophyll.
It is inserted into the nodes of the stem.
Origin
Yemula or plumule of the seed embryo
Exogenous origin (originates from areas
peripheral of the vegetative apex)
Parts of the leaf
Blade (Limbo).- Laminar and bilateral part of the leaf
Petiole.- Grooved, cylindrical or flattened axis that supports the blade and accommodates it to the light
solar. It allows the conduction of the sap through the xylem and phloem bundles that run through it.
Sheath (Vaina).- is a dilation of the foliar base that surrounds the stem serving for its fixation and
protection of the buds that are born in the axils of the leaves.
