Selective for Nm nicotininc receptors at NMJ but not autonomic Nn receptors

succinylcholine mechanism:
strong Ach receptor agonist; produces sustained depolarizino and prevents muscle contraction
reversal of blockade of succinylcholine phase 1 ((prolonged depolariziation)
no antidote; block potentiated by cholinesterase inhibitors

repolarized but blocked; ach receptrs are avialbe but desentized) — may be reversed w cholinesterase inhibitors

SE of depolarizing
hypercalcemia, hyperkalemia, malignant hyyperthermia
treat malingnat hyperthermia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome
dantrolene
mechanism of dantrolene
prevents release of ca2+ from SR of skeletal muscle by binding to ryanodine receptor
activates gabaB receptors at spinal cord level, including skeletal muscle relaxation

treats muscle spasms, MS
