Asset based community developend (ABCD):
A
- It focuses on community assets and strengths rather than problems and needs.
- It identifies and mobilises individual and community assets, skills and passions.
- It is community driven- ‘building communities from the inside out’.
- It is relationship driven.

Community development:
A
- Helps people in a community identify their needs, obtain resources, and empowers people.
- May assist existing groups or help people form new autonomous groups on what they decide they want.

Social planning:
A
- Community defining their needs and working out how they can best be met and how existing services can best be coordinated.
- Paid workers liaising and working with policymakers and service providers to bring awareness to them of the communities’ needs, strengths, etc.
- Assist in the improvement of services, changing of policies, etc.

Social and Community Action:
A
- Where ‘one groups pressurises another group to make a concession or change a policy’.
- When a community takes action ‘to gain certain rights, powers or comforts, through some form of political pressure or mutual self-help.’
