Differences between valid and strong arguments
- with a valid argument no new information could make any difference to the relation between premises and conclusion but with a strong argument new information could make a difference
- valid is deductive
- strong is inductive
What happens if a premise is contradictory?
-Valid but not sound
Which fallacy’s are valid? Why?
All unacceptable premises
All irrelevant premises if they are in a valid form
Name the irrelevant premises.
CG REDS Genetic fallacy Composition Division Equivocation Red Herring Straw man
T-PIPE Appeal to: Person Popularity Tradition Ignorance Emotion

What is categorical Logic?
A form of logic whose focus is categorical statements, which make assertions about categories or classes of things
What are categorical statement
A statement or claim that makes a simple assertion about categories or classes of things
What’s a subject term?

What is a predicate term?
The second class or group named in a standard form categorical statement
What is a standard form categorical statement and what are the forms?
In categorical logic, a categorical statement that takes the form of one of these forms:
- All S and P
- No S are P
- Some S are P
- Some S are not P
What lets and names go with the standard form categorical statement?
A: All S are P (Universal affirmative)
E: No S are P (Universal negative)
I: Some S are P (Particular affirmative)
O: Some S are not P (Particular negative)
What are singular statements?

Diagram and argument from a book.
1.
Do a Venn Diagram from the book.
1.
What are the Venn diagrams for each categorical statement? Why?
A: shade all of S (can’t possibly be any just S)
E: Shade all of the middle (Can’t possible be both S and P)
I: Put an X in the middle (Some of the S is also P)
O: Put an X on the S (Some of the S is not P)
