A
Bowlby proposed that attachment can be explained by evolution - we have evolved a biological need for our caregiver
We create one specific attachment - usually to our biological mothers strong attachment increases chance od survival and also gives us safe base to explore
Internal working model- gives us a template for future relationships this is a “working” model because it can change with relationships
Primary care giver gives us foundations for child’s relationships in future - continuity hypothesis
There is a critical period for attachment to develop
If it doesn’t develop or is broken it can serious,h damage social or emotional development
