May I first if all thank you all for braving the elements this afternoon and coming along here to support this very worthwhile cause. That cause is, as we all know, the building of the new village hall. Something that can eventually be enjoyed by each and every one of us in this community.

I won’t keep you longer than I have to - I’m well aware this is hardly the weather for standing about and listening to speeches.

We plan to take tea in the tea tent, that is the tent from which I am speaking to you now, immediately after we have heard from our distinguished Guest of Honour.

Both she and her husband have served as councillors for this ward for many years and during that time have, I feel - and here I’m speaking over and above any purely party political feeling - have, I feel, done tremendous work both for us and for the whole community to which we all belong.
