Monohybrid inheritance Flashcards
What is monohybrid inheritance?
inheritance of a characteristic controlled by a single gene e.g. T = tall t = dwarf
What is the parents genotype?
diploid - 2 alleles
Parent 1 = TT (homozygous dominant)
What is the parents gametes?
haploid = 1 allele
parent 2 = tt (homozygous recessive)
What is it called when parent 1 breeds with parent 2?
the F1 generation
the first offspring
What happens when you cross a homozygous dominant and a homozygous recessive?
you will get 100% heterozygotes in f1
What will the genotypes and phenotypes in f1 generation be?
genotypes = Tt
phenotypes = tall
What would the genotypes and phenotypes be in f2?
genotypes = 1 homozygous dominant, 2 heterozygotes, 1 homozygous recessive
phenotypes = tall:dwarf = 3:1
