Autosomal Linkage Flashcards
What is a autosome?
all the non-sex chromosomes
How many chromosomes do humans have and how many of them are autosomes?
we have 46 chromosomes and 2 of them are sex chromosomes
so we have 44 autosomes
What are genes on the same autosome?
they are linked
What happens during indepndent segregation in autosomes?
they will stay together but if they are on separate chromosomes, they will be separated
they will be inherited together
What does independant segregation affect?
the expected phenotypic ratio froma dihybrid cross - because they are inherited together, they act like a monohybrid cross
What does autosomal linkage mean?
that more offspring will have the same genotype and phenotype as their parents
What can cause autosomal linkage to not happen?
crossing over - the alleles that are separated during this
offspring will have their parents genotype and pehnotype
some will have other genotypes and phenotypes because of crossing over
The closer the loci of genes….
on the autosome, the more closing linked they are
