Q

Measuring a colour change and what is a colourimeter

A

Using a colourimeter (measure absorbance of a particular wavelength of light by a solution)

  • Set colourimeter to wavelength interested in measuring
  • Calibrate colourimeter sample of distilled water in cuvette place in colourimeter and set to 0
  • Carry out creation and take samples of reaction at regular intervals measure absorbance of each one

Q

Work out reaction order

A
  • use initial conc of reactant interested in and work out moles
  • work out how many moles products have formed
  • use balanced equation to work out mole of reactant
  • subtract no. of moles of reactant from initial number find no. of moles of reactant at that point
  • divide no of moles of reactant by volume of reaction mixture to find conc of reactant at that point
