Q

What is the difference between ionic and molecular compounds?

A

Ionic compounds are formed with one metal ion (cation) and one non metal ion (anion) that join together by exchanging electrons (ionic bond).
They conduct electricity, are soluble in water and they have high melting points.

Molecular compounds are formed with two non metals that join together by sharing electrons (covalent bond).
They don’t conduct electricity, aren’t soluble in water and have low melting points.
