Molecular and Genetic Medicine (Kirsch) Flashcards
1
Q
What is testotoxicosis?
A
- activating mutation of the LH receptor
- gonadotropin-independent familial precocious puberty
- causes shortness
2
Q
How do you treat testotoxicosis?
A
suppress androgens until time to go through puberty:
- ketoconazoles to decrease steroidgenesis
- anti-androgen and aromatase inhibitors
- GnRHa if centrally directed puberty starts too early
3
Q
What are some examples of anti-androgens?
A
bicalutamide, spironolactone
4
Q
What are some examples of aromatase inhibitors?
A
anastrozole, armidex, testolactone
5
Q
What is acid labile subunit deficiency?
A
- lack of the binding/transport protein for IGF
6
Q
How to treat labile subunit deficiency?
A
- Can administer free IGF continuously
