Repetition
Movement or phrase is repeated in exactly the same way
Augmentation
Making the movement or phrase larger in size when repeated
Accumulation
When you add movements to a phrase but go back to the beginning each time.
Motif
A single movement or phrase which is repeated and manipulated throughout the dance (helps communicate intention)
Retrograde
Movement or phrase is reversed
Abstraction
Essence of the idea or feeling rather than the literal image
Addition
When you perform a distinctive action and add another body action to it
Transposition
Movement is transferred to a different body part
Rearangement
A movement is taken apart and reorganised into a different order
Inversion
Reverse position of the body, like a mirror image
Distortion
Bend or change the shape of a movement making it appear twisted, angular and deformed
