OTR
Registered occupational therapist. This requires a master’s degree. Responsible for providing and monitoring the occupational therapy service provided to the clients they serve throughout the entire process which includes responsibility for the plan of care, assessments, and discharge summaries.
COTA
Primary role is the treatment of clients under the supervision of and in collaboration with an occupational therapist supervisor.
OT Aide
A person who provides services under the supervision of an occupational therapist to clients and therapists and helps maintain the work space. This is an unlicensed role.
Post professional education
idk. Probably a doctorates.
Service competent
A useful mechanism by which it is determined that two people performing the same or equivalent procedures will obtain the same or equivalent results.
Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
The national organization that regulates entry-level education for occupational therapists and for occupational therapy assistants.
American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
The nationally recognized professional association for occupational therapy practitioners
National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (WFOT)
The organization responsible for administering the national certification examination.
Utah’s Department of Professional Licensing (DOPL)
A professional license to practice occupational therapy in the state.
World Federation of Occupational Therapy (WFOT)
Organization established in 1952 to help occupational therapy practitioners access international information, engage in international exchange, and promote organizations of occupational therapy in schools in countries where none exists.
Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics
Promotes the core value of the profession. This document consists seven principles; beneficence, non-malfeasance, autonomy and confidentiality, social justice, procedural justice, veracity, and fidelity to cover different areas of professional behaviors.
Association of Student Delegates (ASD)
Each school may elect one delegate–called ASD. This person represents all the students in occupational therapy at the school and attends national meetings to make decisions about students in occupational therapy. Involvement in a professional organization can provide experience you will not get from school or books.
Beneficence
Code of Ethics: a principle that requires that the occupational therapy practitioner contribute to the good health and welfare of the client.
Non-Malfeasance
Code of Ethics: A principle that instructs the practitioner to not inflict harm to the client
Autonomy and Confidentiality
Code of Ethics: The freedom to decide and the freedom to act.
The expectation that information shared by the client with the occupational therapy practitioner will be kept private and shared only with those directly involved with the intervention.
