Module 6 Flashcards
Physical Agent Modalities (PAMs)
such as fluid-therapy, paraffin bath, whirlpool, electrical stimulation, ultra sound, etc.
Activity Analysis
The breaking down of a particular task into smaller components of sequence, functional skills, and the physical, cognitive, emotional, sensory, and social components.
Modalities
the media and methods used in occupational therapy intervention
Assistive devices
Low–or high–technology aids to improve a person’s function
Therapeutic exercise
The scientific supervision of exercise for the purpose of preventing muscular atrophy, restoring joint and muscle function and improving efficiency of cardiovascular and pulmonary function
Activity Synthesis
The process of identifying gaps in performance and bridging those gaps by grading or adapting the activity or the environment in order to provide the “just right challenge” for the client
Media
Other types of adaptation in occupational therapy practice are therapeutic tools and equipment. Examples are mat table, weights, games, cards, blocks, scooter board, etc.
Orthotics
Splints and braces
Grading an activity
In order to learn or relearn a skill, one must practice the steps repeatedly before the skill becomes automatic. As one-step became automatic, you added another. Breaking the task into smaller steps and working on those steps individually.
Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF)
the therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) with individuals or groups for the purpose of enhancing or enabling participation in roles, habits, and routines in home, school, workplace, community, and other settings
Methods
the steps, sequences, and approaches used to activate the therapeutic effect of a medium
Occupation-Based Interventions
there performance of occupation-related activities by the client, including activities of daily livening, instrumental activities of daily living, work and school tasks, and play or leisure tasks
Compensation
the client is unable to reach the goal based on only remediation, so the occupational therapist finds ways around the problem to reach the goal (ex: assistive devices)
Preparation Interventions/Preparatory Methods
techniques or activities that address the remediation and restoration of problems associated with client factors and body structures, with the long-term purpose of supporting the client’s acquisition of performance skills needed to resume his or her roles and daily occupations
Consultation
a type of intervention in which practitioners use their knowledge and expertise to collaborate with the client, caregivers, significant others, or other providers
