Module 8 Flashcards
Trophic relationships
relating to feeding or food (who eats whom)
food chain
Trophic level
position on a food chain or web
producers are first, then consumers based on what they eat. decomposers bridge the top trophic level to the bottom
Energy flows through trophic levels
Trophic level 1: primary producers
Trophic level 2: primary consumers
Trophic level 3: secondary consumers
Trophic level 4: tertiary consumers
Ecosystems
all the living organisms (biotic factors) in an area and the non-living (abiotic factors) with which they interact
Invasive species
a new species introduced and causes damage to the ecosystem
Ecosystem of the Everglades interactions/relationships
Interspecific interactions: relationships between species
Trophic relationships: relating to feeding or food
Mutualism
both organisms benefit
Commensalism
one organism benefits and the other is unaffected
Competition
both organisms are negatively impacted
Predation, Herbivory, & Parasitism
one organism is feeding on another
Ecosystem services
- goods and services that ecosystems provide humans
- food, energy, lumber, water filtration, flood control, shelter, recreation, culture
