Module 7 Flashcards
Three Phases of Project Management
Planning, Scheduling, Controlling
Project Organization
organization formed to ensure that programs (projects) receive proper management and attention
Work Breakdown Structure
a heirarchal description of a project into more and more detailed components
Work Breakdown Structure Levels
1 Project
2. Major tasks in the project
3. Subtasks in major tasks
4. Activities to be completed.
Gantt Chart
planning charts used to schedule resources and allocate time
Waterfall (Project Management)
Projects that progress smoothly in a step by step manner until completed
Agile (Project Management)
Ill-defined projects requiring collaboration and constant feedback to adjust to project unknowns
Program evaluation and review technique (PERT)
a project management technique that employs three time estimates for each activity
Critical Path Method
a project management technique that only used one time factor per activity
6 Steps to PERT and CPM
- Define project and prepare work breakdown structure
- Develop relationships among the activities - decide order
- Draw the network connecting activities
- Assign time and cost estimates
- Compute the longest time path (Critical Path)
- Use network to plan, schedule, monitor and control
Activity on Node
network diagram which nodes designate activities
Activity on Arrow
network diagram which arrows designate activities
Critical Path Analysis
a process that helps determine a project schedule
Determines the longest path through a network
Forward Pass
a process that identifies all the early times
Backward Pass
identifies the late start and finish times
Slack Time
Slack is the length of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the entire project
What are activities with zero slack?
Critical activities (on the critical path)
Optimistic Time
the best activity completion time that could be obtained in a pert network
Pessimistic Time
the worst activity time that could be expected in a pert network
most likely time
the most probable time to complete an activity in a pert network
Crashing (Project Management)
shortening activity time in a network to reduct time on the critical path so total completion time is reduced
