Do Recommendations Support automatic DQ for psych diagnosis?
NO, not solely on diagnosis. Need to assess the whole picture.
Can ADHD patients be qualified?
Yep! As long as all the things (treatment, monitored, stable, no side effects, compliant, etc.)
MAX OF 1 YEAR CERT
CNS Stimulants Certification Period
1 year MAX (as long as it isn’t taken for NARCOLEPSY
Patient Comes in for certification, recently newly diagnosed with Major Depression and/or Bipolar, can we qualify?
NO - 6 month waiting period.
If after 6 months, he comes back and everything is in order, we can qualify for 1 year max…. as long as they’re meeting with their treating provider for mental health eval every 2 years
What things do we need to consider about anti-depressants?
DQ if using 1st generation anti-depressants (Elavil, Tofranil)… except under special circumstance.
People on anti-depressants have 1 year max cert period
Lithium Recs?
Not automatic DQ… as long as all the things are in order
Anxiolytic, Sedatives, Hypnotics ….
As long as they have no significant next day effects … short acting half life (< 5 hours)
Max Cert 2 years
Does Electroconvulsive Therapy DQ?
Not automatically. 6 month waiting period, and no ongoing / maintenance ECT or side effects from 1st treatment
Personality disorders cert period?
1 year max, not automatically DQ
What Conditions are auto DQ?
Schizophrenia & Active Psychosis
