Straight catheter (cross-section) - single use, washable Indwelling (foley) retention catheter (cross section) - Balloon inflated 5-10mL, long-term Triple lumen catheter (cross-section) - used for continuous bladder irrigation, can be used on a short term or long term basis (30mL inflated balloon)
What is an intermitten catheter?
Known as the in and out catheter – a single straight catheter with a single lumen is introduced for 5 to 10 minutes
- Sterile technique in hospital, clean in the community

When would be an indication that intermittent bladder irrigation is necessary?
Huh
What is a closed urinary drainage system? Open ?
Closed-No opening from the bladder to the drainage bag
Open- The intermittent, no port on the drainage bag
What are the three types of urine testing to be done?
Random specimen (routine urinanalysis) Clean – voided or midstream specimen (culture/sensitivity) Sterile (culture and sensitivity)
