Module 5 Life-2 Flashcards
the ability to cause a change or do work
Energy
an organized group of related parts that interact to form a whole. Systems exist on all scales in biology. Two organisms that interact can also be a system.
system
physical environment with different species that interact with one another and with non-living things.
ecosystem
related in living things and relate at the level of chemicals in cells. What something does in an organism is directly related to its shape or form.
Structure and function
maintenance of constant internal conditions in an organism
Homeostasis
sum of all the chemical reactions necessary for the maintenance of life
Metabolism
the change in living things over time. It is a change in the genetic makeup of a subgroup/population, of a species
Evolution
an inherited trait that gives an advantage to individual organisms and is passed on to future generations
Adaptation
Humans and bacterial genetics are based on DNA and RNA. They both rely upon the same sources of energy with similar cell structures.
Unity and Diversity
In order to survive, organisms interact with abiotic and biotic factors in their environment
Interdependence
