Why is interrupting a challenge for non-native English speakers?
- Speed of speech: some beginners find natural communication fast.
- Uncertainty of phrases to use and whether they are appropriate.
- Technical difficulties with speech delays during online classes.
- Cultural differences, some won’t interrupt and others will easily intterupt.
How can a formality scale help a student?
Using a scale can be more beneficial for quantifying formality and politeness.
Starting at 0, not formal or polite, and going up to 100 percent, extremely formal or polite.

Speaker:
