Module 5 Flashcards
1
Q
Types of Descriptive Research
A
- Observational methods
- Case Study Method
- Survey Method
2
Q
Observational Method
A
Naturalistic ( field study ) and Laboratory
-Have to watch out for the Reactivity Effect (when participants change behavior because they know they are being observed.
3
Q
Case Study Method
A
-IN-depth Study
-Individuals or groups
-Study behaviors or events
-Study sequence of behaviors or events
Also need to watch for Reactivity Effect with this method.
4
Q
Survey Method
A
-Interviews
-Questionnnaires
Need to watch for Reactivity Effect, participant factors, and reliability and validity.
5
Q
Correlational Research
A
- Your research question is a RELATIONAL question (is resilience related to IQ? What factors contribute to resilience and what factors contribute the most?)
- There are 2 variables, x and y, and we measure them to see if they are related. The strength and the direction of the relationship is determined.
- Participants can be randomly selected but cannot be randomly assigned.
- Cannot determine a causal relationship
- No manipulation of an independent variable
6
Q
Expo-Facto Research
A
- Retrospective vs Prospective
- “after the fact”
- “Backward in time” data collection
- Has experimental and comparison groups but there is no random assignment or manipulation of IV
- Cannot have a true experiment
