Q

Observational Method

A

Naturalistic ( field study ) and Laboratory
-Have to watch out for the Reactivity Effect (when participants change behavior because they know they are being observed.

Q

Case Study Method

A

-IN-depth Study
-Individuals or groups
-Study behaviors or events
-Study sequence of behaviors or events
Also need to watch for Reactivity Effect with this method.

Q

Correlational Research

A
  • Your research question is a RELATIONAL question (is resilience related to IQ? What factors contribute to resilience and what factors contribute the most?)
  • There are 2 variables, x and y, and we measure them to see if they are related. The strength and the direction of the relationship is determined.
  • Participants can be randomly selected but cannot be randomly assigned.
  • Cannot determine a causal relationship
  • No manipulation of an independent variable

Q

Expo-Facto Research

A
  • Retrospective vs Prospective
    • “after the fact”
    • “Backward in time” data collection
    • Has experimental and comparison groups but there is no random assignment or manipulation of IV
  • Cannot have a true experiment
