Refers to the structure and correctness of the language
Academic language
Requires large vocabulary, and complex sentence structures/text formats. Challenging, must scaffold and help
Language production
Writing and speaking, creating a message. Two dimensions of language production are meaning and form
Scaffolding
Process that enables a child to solve a problem, carry out a task, or achieve a goal that would otherwise be beyond their unassisted efforts.
Language production techniques
Provide models, time to think and rehearse, break task down into small steps, opportunity to revise, and provide tools for organizing and planning.
Graphic Organizer
An organizational tool that helps all students (especially ELL and visual learners), displaying information visually. It is easily adaptable to the student and subject area.
Meaning
The ideas and content expressed through language. What does the message mean?
