What are some things to assess or consider while assessing children
tone, interactiveness, consolability, look/ gaze, speech/ cry
What is included in the A-F assessment
Airway, breathing, circulation, disability, exposure, fluids
developmental milestones at 2 months
smiles at people, lifts head and chest off floor, fixes eyes on moving objects, coo, gurgle sounds
developmental milestones at 6 months
recognises faces, reaches for spoon when being fed, roll in both directions, getting ready to crawl, passes objects from hand to hand
developmental milestones at 12 months
shy with strangers, few words, feeding themselves with spoons, following instruction, pulls themselves to standing, walk while holding on to furniture
developmental milestones at 18 months
walks alone, says several single words, grips crayons, drinks from cup
developmental milestones at 2 years
says sentences, copies other people, stands on tip toe, climbs furniture, walks downstairs, kicks balls.
developmental milestones at 3 years
jumps on both feet, runs easily, pedal tricycle, uses zippers, toilet trained mostly, 2-3 sentence conversation.
What age does the eriksons stage of development ‘trust v mistrust’ occur?
birth-18 months
What age does eriksons stage of development ‘autonomy v shame and doubt’ occur?
18months-3 years
What is SUDI or SIDS?
the sudden unexpected death of an infant, where a neonate or infant dies unexpectedly and no cause can be determined by an autopsy
What are the 6 safe sleeping measures?
- sleep baby on their back from birth, not tummy or side
- sleep baby with head and face uncovered
- keep baby smoke free before and after birth
- provide safe sleeping environment night and day
- sleep baby in their own safe sleeping space in the same room as caregiver for the first 6-12 months
- breastfeed baby
Injuries and accidents were the leading cause of death and a large contributor to child hospitalisation. What are some potential injuries?
burns, poisoning, choking, near-drowning, entrapment, breaks and sprains, concussion or head injury
