Module 4 Computer Systems Flashcards
IPOS (Input-Processing-Output-Storage) Model
Users input data and the computer where it is processed into useable information that can be accessed to anser questions or meet specific needs
Input: data is entered
Processing: Something happens to data
Output: result of processing
Storage: data stored for future use
Defining a computer system
Computer system is a colection of hardware and software components that work together to meet needs of a user
Networks and uers are often also considered to be a part of a computer system
Computer Hardware
Physical components of computer and external components
Internal: CPU, Memory, Hard Drive ect
External: Monitor, Mouse, printer, keyboard, and the case containing internal components
Networks also have hardware such as cabels and wiring
Computer Software: Systems Software & Application Software
Systems software includes the operating system and all the utilities that enabl the computer to function
Application software includes programs that do real work for users (word processors, spreadsheets, database management systems, ect)
Timeline of Computer Development
- Computers built and programmed by engineers
- Limited use of computers by large organizations
- Introduction of personal computers
- Graphical user interface systems are introduced
How computer users changed over last 75 years
Now almost ayone can be a computer user where in the past only computer scientists and people with specialized training could use
Networks
Network protocols are necessary for computers to communicate with eachother
Businesses use networks for data sharing, cost reduction, and customer support
