Module 4 $ 3 Flashcards
The first number in an ordered pair; it tells the distance to move right or left from the origin (0,0)
X-coordinate
The second number in an ordered pair; it tells the the distance to move up or down from the origin (0,0)
Y-coordinate
An equation whose solutions form a straight line on a coordinate plane
Linear equation
A linear equation written in the form y=mx+b, where m represents the slope and b represents the y-intercept
Slope-intercept form of an equation
The y-coordinate of the point where the graph of a line crosses the y-axis
Y-intercept
A set of values that make all equations in a system true.
Solution of a system of equations
A set of two or more equations that contain 2 or more variables
System of equations
A measure of the steepness of a line on a graph; the rise divided by the run
Slope
A ratio that compares the amount of change in a dependent variable to the amount of change in an independent variable
Rate of change
A relationship between two quantities in which the ratio of one quantity to the other quantity is constant
Proportional relationship
A pair of numbers that can be used to locate a point on a coordinated plane.
Ordered pair
A comparison of two quantities by division
Ratio
Ratios that name the same comparison
Equivalent Ratios
A value that does not change
Constant
An equation that states that two ratios are equivalent
Proportion
A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units
Rate
The output of a function; a variable whose values depends on the value of the input variable
Dependent Variable
The input of a function; a variable whose values determines the value of the output variable
Independent variable
The constant ratio between two quantities
Constant of proportionality
The constant “k” in direct variation equation
Constant of variation
A relationship written as y=kx, where the data increases or decreases together at a constant rate
Direct variation
An equation whose solutions forms a straight line on a coordinate plane
Linear equation
