Module 4 Flashcards
What is a Mono layer and why is it important?
A mono layer is layer where rbc are evenly spaces, it’s important because the proper microscopic evaluation depends on the proper cell distribution
Peripheral blood smears: good characteristics
3-4cm, thick to thin, thumbprint shaped, free of tails or nicks,
Why is staining necessary
Makes the cells visible, differentiate the various cell components
3 steps for staining
Fixation, staining, washing
What is the purpose of fixation, staining, and washing
.
Fixation- kills cells, makes cells permeable to dye, dehydrate cells
Staining- to give cells different colours, so they are easier to identify
Washing? To stop staining
Cover slipping protects slides from
Physical damage, deterioration of stain oxidation
3’steps of sedimentation
Aggregation, fast settling and packing
What is rouleaux?
Aggregation of rbcs in a cylindrical columns
