Module 4 Flashcards
Shock
State of collapse and failure of the cardiovascular system that causes inadequate tissue perfusion
Blood average in males and females
Approximately 70 mL of blood per kg in men and 65 mL/kg in females
Signs of arterial bleeding
Bright red
Spurts in time with the pulse
Signs of veinous bleeding
Dark red
Flows steadily
Signs of capillary bleeding
Dark red
Oozes slowly
Trauma triad of death
Combination of
Hypothermia
Coagulopathy
And acidosis
What to do with trauma triad of death
Aggressively control bleeding
Keep patients warm
Minimize volume of acidic IV fluids administered
If possible, monitor end tidal CO2 and ventilations to prevent respiratory acidosis
Consider administering tranexamic acid to help control internal bleeding
