Module 3.4 Flashcards
Switches that can be connected together and operate as a group. The switch stack can be managed as a single unit
Stackable
___________________ A fixed switch comes with a set number of ports that cannot be changed or upgraded.
Modular versus fixed-
Simple unmanaged switches with five or eight ports might be supplied as small freestanding units that can be placed on a desktop.
Desktop versus rack-mounted-
This is a read-only mode where commands can be used to report the configuration, show system status, or run basic troubleshooting tools.
User EXEC mode
This allows the user to reboot or shut down the appliance and to backup and restore the system configuration.
Privileged EXEC mode/enable mode-
This allows the user to write configuration updates
Global configuration mode
Set of commands in a switch OS to report configuration or interface information.
show commands
___________________ displays the switch’s configuration.
show config
show interface lists the state of all interfaces or the specified interface. Interfaces are identified by type, slot, and port number
show interface
Port setting that determines the speed of the link. The same setting must be used on the connected device and is usually autonegotiated.
speed
Network link that allows interfaces to send and receive simultaneously.
duplex
Interface that can detect a connection type and configure as MDI or MDI-X as appropriate.
auto-MDI/MDIX
Under __________________ , an end system uses media dependent interface (MDI) to transmit on pins 1 and 2 and receive on pins 3 and 6.
100BASE-T
Data store on a switch that keeps track of the MAC addresses associated with each port. As the switch uses a type of memory called Content Addressable Memory (CAM), this is sometimes called the CAM table.
MAC address table
A switch learns __________________ addresses by reading the source address when a frame is received on a port.
