Module 3 - Viral Infections Flashcards
1
Q
What are Prions?
A
Are misfolded proteins. When a prions contacts a normally folded protein in induced the normal protein for assume the abnormal shape
This can lead to prion aggregation causing cellular malfunctions and eventual degeneration of the brain
2
Q
what is the structure of a virus
A
Viruses consist of nucleic acid enclosed in a cashed and that is further enclosed by an envelope
Viral glycoprotein’s on the envelope bind to specific receptor molecules on the surface of a host cell
Some viral envelopes are formed from the host cell’s plasma membrane as the viral capsized exit
3
Q
How does a virus replicate?
A
- Attachment of the virus to the susceptible host cell
- Entry of the virion or its nucleic acid
- Synthesis of virus nucleic acid and protein by cell metabolism as redirected by virus
- Assembly of capris and packaging of viral genomes into new irons
- Release of mature virions from host cell
