Module 3 - Section 2 - Forces and Equilibrium Flashcards
What does resolving a force mean ?
It means splitting it up into components
What should the arrow labels show when your drawing forces ?
They should show the magnitude and direction of the forces as a force is a vector quantity
How do you resolve a force e.g. force, F
You would have to resolve the force into a horizontal and vertical component and they would be acting at right angles to each other - the forces would be called Fh and Fv
What does coplanar mean ?
Coplanar means that they all act in the same plane
How could you use a scale drawing to show that three coplanar forces are producing no net force ?
You draw the forces in a triangle with f2 after f1 and f3 after f2
then write that f1 + f2 + f3 = 0
