Simple structures built of local materials and available tools to provide shelter
- Folk Architecture
Examples of Folk Architecture:
- Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut
- Bale or Ifugao House
- Ivatan House in Batanes
- Torogan or Maranao House
- Badjao’s Stilt Houses and Houseboats
It is also known as “kamalig”. It serves as an icon to Filipino lowland and rural culture. Made with bamboo rods and bamboo mats or “samali”.
- Bahay Kubo or Nipa Hut
One-room house with attic for storage. It is located at the contour of rice terraces. The exterior of house looks like a pyramid resting on four posts.
- Bale or Ifugao House
Built with limestone walls and cogon roofs, strong enough to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. It has narrow doors and windows.
- Ivatan House in Batanes
Literally means “a place for sleeping.” It is a stately house for elite members such as a person with status, government official, Datu or Sultan of Maranao tribe in Mindanao. It also serves as a courthouse or hall.
- Torogan or Maranao House
Their unique ecological setting and fishing economy forces the Badjaos to adjust to the limited space of their “lepa” or floating homes.

- Wooden Banca
- Vinta Boat
Outrigger canoe is a small wooden boat for transport in daily activities by people near coast.

It has colorful designs and used for transport and exchange of goods. The colors in this boat represents the culture of Muslims.

Examples of Weaving, Textile making & Fabric Art:

- Tapis of Kalinga tribe
Produced mostly by the Aklanon in the province of Aklan. Considered as the finest of Philippine textiles because of its delicacy and natural creamy hue.
- Pina
Bestowed upon them through dreams. It is a sacred cloth from T’boli people in Lake Sebu, Mindanao island.
- T’nalak
Palawan’s traditional basket that is used for storage of salt, rice and other personal belongings. Both for practical and spiritual purposes.
- Tingkop Baskets
Happy activity for Higanon people of Bukidnon. Their ancestors used abaca as raw material for clothing, footwear, blankets, and fishing gear.
- Hinabol
Has geometric designs and the patterns are inspired by nature. It is made by Yakan tribe from Basilan and is used for religious and ritual purposes. Can also be used as gifts or peace offerings.
- Yakan-weaved cloth
Rectangular cloth for women. It is a sacred tradition passed from mother to daughter. It is a costume of the Kalinga and Apayao women.
- Tapis of Kalinga Tribe

Examples of Literature:
- Malakas at Maganda
- Darangan
Examples of Graphic and Plastic Art:
- 2D graphics like drawing and painting.
- 3D graphics like sculpture or ceramics.
Examples of Ornament:
- Bulul (Carved by Ifugaos which believed to be a house of certain class of anito, which are spirits or deities.)
Native Filipinos created this 3500 years ago.

Secondary burial jar in early 1960s in Manunggul Tribe.
