A pioneer Neo-Realist of the country. Refined cubism in PH context and used GEOMETRIC FRAGMENTATION technique. His works include Gadgets I, Gadgets II, Diggers, The Survivor.
Cesar Legaspi (1990)
Self-taught painter from Sta. Cruz Manila. Canvases evoked lush PH landscape. His acknowledged masterpiece is Genesis.
- Hernando Ocampo (1991)
Established Luz Gallery that professionalized art gallery as an institution. His significant paintings are Bagong Taon, Vendador de Flores, Skipping Rope.
Arturo Luz (1997)
Pioneered abstract expressionism in the PH. Distinguished himself by creating authentic Filipino abstract idiom. Most of his paintings of harmonious colors were inspired by PH landscapes and used rice paper in collages.
- Jose T. Joya (2003)
From Malabon. Has been noted as the best-selling painter of his generation. Christened the emblematic scavenger figure “Sabel” who is a symbol of dislocation, despair and isolation.
- Benedicto Cabrera (2006)
Painter and Sculptor from Sta. Cruz Manila. Artist of voluminous output and known for his gestural paintings. Received fellowship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Spain.
- Federico Aguilar Alcuaz (2009)
Born in Buting, Pasig. Acknowledged as King of Komiks and Dean of Filipino Illustrators. Started his career in 1934. Part of golden age of Pinoy comics in ’50s and ’60s.
- Francisco Coching (2014)
Grew up in BArrio Bolosan, Dagupan, Pangasinan. He is the Father of Modern Philippine Painting. His choice of colors were dark and somber and favorite subjects are laborers or factory workers. His works are The Sketch, Portrait of the Professor and Japanese Girl.
- Victorio Edades (1976)
Born in Malolos, Bulacan. Hailed as the Father of Philippine Arts. His famous works are Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan and UP Oblation in Diliman, QC.
- Guillermo Tolentino (1973)
From Macabebe, Pampanga. He was a cubist painter and illustrator. His paintings are describes as visions of reality teetering on the edge of abstraction. Trained at Paris. His works include A Cluster of Nipa Hut, Banaklaot.
- Vicente Manansala (1981)
From Angono, Rizal. A poet who single-handedly revived the forgotten art of mural and known for his major works Portrait of Purita, The Invasion of Limahong, and Serenade.
- Carlos “Botong” Francisco (1973)
Born in Antique. Versatile artist, being both proficient painter and sculptor. Devotion to visual arts spans 40 years. His major mixed media works are Im Sorry Jesus, I Cant Attend Christmas This Year (1965) and Homage to Dodjie Laurel (1969).
- J. Elizalde Navarro (1999)
Native of Bohol. Was the youngest awardee (only 46 y.o when given the title) and considered as Father of Modern PH Sculpture. His major works include Kaganapan (1953), Kiss of Judas (1955).
- Napoleon Abueva (1976)
From Davao City. Painter and fused influences from cubism, surrealism, expressionism in his style. He love fighting cocks, rabid dogs as subjects. His works include Geometric Landscape (1969).
- Ang Kiukok or Ang Hwa Shing
Native of Sulu. He is a sculptor, painter, and articulator of PH Muslim art and culture. His works include Industry Brass Mural, Mural Relief in Filmmaking.
