Module 3 Ecosystem Dynamics Flashcards
What is a population
A group of organisms of the same species living together in an area at the same time.
What are biotic factors in a ecosystem
Predation
Competition
Symbiotic relationships
What is predation
A relationship where the predator kill and eat other animals
What is competion
Where two or more organisms uses one or more common resources which are limited but valuable in survival
What is symbiotic relationship
Interaction in which two organisms live together in a close relationship that is beneficial to at least one of them
What is mutualism
Relationship where both organisms benefit eg. bee pollinating a flower
What is commensalism
A relationship that benefits one species but not harms the other. eg. epiphytes on tree trucks to catch rain water and dissolve nutrients and being closer to the sunlight
What is parasitism
Relationship where one(host) benefits and the other(parasite) is harmed eg. flea on dog
What are some human impact that has made changes in an ecosystem
Increasing population
Agriculture
Introduced species
Land clearing
